Propane Heater in Greenhouse

I tried something last night, since it was going to be so cold and I had baby plants coming up in the greenhouse I tried to heat it. Financially it may not have been worth it, not worth it to the point to keep using propane on heating the house anyway. If the plants were growing faster maybe, but they are growing so slow that I’m not sure they are going to do much anyway. Last night the temperature outside got down to 6 degrees Fahrenheit.

heater-in-ghThe little plants seemed fine this morning, I put a thermometer in the greenhouse this morning and I think it was 20 degrees, thermometer wasn’t working very well. I recalibrated the thermometer later and without heat it got up to 30 degrees in the house around 4:00 pm if the thermometer was working. At 10:00 pm it was 20 degrees in the house without heat, the heater was lit but I will be surprised if it makes it through the night. At 10:00 pm it was 8 degrees outside.

Didn’t do much outside today, checked on chickens and horses. The chicken water was fine and I had to keep breaking the ice on the horse water, we will do it again tomorrow. The temperature is not supposed to get above freezing tomorrow but it should be about 15 degrees warmer than today and continue to warm up through the week and get into the 60’s during the day.
