Making Sugar Water for the Bees

With the way the winter has been, warm, the bees need a lot of food, they are flying burning calories and not bringing any thing back unless I give it too them. You have seen Pollen Pro, sugar water, and patties earlier but here is an easy way to make sugar water.

There are plenty of video’s out there, but I’ll show how anyway. The sugar should be sugar cane not beets and it should be a ratio of 2:1 sugar to water for winter feeding. I put in 8 cups of sugar and 4 cups of water.

Sugar is in, add water, then stir to make sure all of the sugar is wet.

After stirring the sugar and water heat to a boil to dissolve the sugar. I put it in a pickle jar for storage because it is easy to handle but honestly it is a little small.

It takes several hours for it to cool down and you don’t want to give the bees boiling sugar water so it is good to plan at least a day ahead.
