Odds and Ends

The last week has been crazy, after posting my bee problems I made a decision to try and save the hives by re-queening the hives. Of course nothing else worked out, 180 miles, $60 later I got my queens.

Of course the temperature started dropping and the wind picked up, neither of which are good for opening hives.

Besides the continual plumbing project, my truck breaks started squeaking. They had at least 60,000 miles on them so I figured it was time to change the pads.

Unfortunately some of the slide pins were frozen so I figured I would replace all of the breaks which turned into a few days work between broken tools and frozen parts.

Eventually that got completed.

Today, the day after putting new queens in my hives it snowed.

This was taken when I got home, several hours later we have more snow on the ground than any previous day this winter. My fruit trees are flowering and everything else has grown buds and the bee hives have been opened and disrupted. How much damage has been done I don’t know?

Just a stay at home Dad trying to become more self sufficient in a world getting more dependent. It’s easy to get lost in all the things of the world, sometimes the best therapy is getting your hands dirty and growing something good!
