Finally Working

Today was pretty productive, got off to a late start, my son was up from midnight to 3:00 am so my wife let me stay in bed until 9:00.

Unfortunately we had a causality, one of the chicks got sick and after nursing and cleaning it still died. Who knows why it died but it’s frustrating at this point keeping their bin clean.

With this many birds it’s hard to keep them safe and have space, snakes are my biggest threat at this point but I think I’m going to increase their space on Friday. Now they poop all over and walk on their feed, it’s a mess even when I clean their bin every day. If you build a coup chicken wire isn’t enough, you really need the 1/2 inch hardware cloth to protect them at this point.

Finally got my over grown Mizuna out of the hoop house, I hate wasting that much but it’s time for something else

The spinach that was previously harvested is coming back up again and almost ready for the second harvest.

Finally finished my chicken fencing project, I was working on it last Thursday and my wife went into labor so it got stopped.

Now I can start growing in my back yard again, it’s expensive to keep fencing in chickens but I want them to have some freedom and protection. Chickens are a very high impact animal, they will tear anything up, last summer my backyard was full of grass and now it’s just dirt.

Just a stay at home Dad trying to become more self sufficient in a world getting more dependent. It’s easy to get lost in all the things of the world, sometimes the best therapy is getting your hands dirty and growing something good!
