Killing Weeds

Back towards the beginning of the summer I made a post that said the weeds should die in the hoop house if the doors were shut.

The above picture was from several months ago, the doors hadn’t been opened until today. It was very hot in there and the weeds were growing unbelievably well! It was the wettest summer we have had for a while but no watering took place in the house. I wish I took a picture before knocking the weeds down but I forgot.

The weeds were about 4 ft tall before I cut them.

Ironically the last post was about letting snakes live to help with the mouse problem, however while pulling the weeds I almost pulled a snake, probably put my fingers within an inch of this guy.

He/she is a copperhead, unlikely to die from but definitely a trip to the hospital, unfortunately this close to the house is a death sentence for poisonous snakes, I had to get rid of him.

An interesting discovery with the weeds, even though they were tall and full it was fairly easy to pull all that mess.

The grass was dead in the house which was one of the harder things to pull, in the next few days hopefully I will turn in some horse manure and get ready to start planting next month.

Just a stay at home Dad trying to become more self sufficient in a world getting more dependent. It’s easy to get lost in all the things of the world, sometimes the best therapy is getting your hands dirty and growing something good!
